Large Permineralised Petrified Wood with Quartz Druzy

A beautiful substantial piece of permineralised petrified wood with sparkling Quartz druzy, displaying an incredible combination of fossilised wood structure and natural crystal formation.

Sourced from Zwenkau near Leipzig in Saxony, Germany, this material is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. The original locality is no longer accessible following flooding of the pit, making specimens from this site particularly interesting to fossil and mineral collectors.

This individual specimen displays extensive natural texture, with preserved areas of fossil wood sitting alongside sparkling Quartz druzy formations that catch the light beautifully across the surface.

Its broad, sculptural form and substantial 6.15kg weight give the piece real presence, making it equally suited to a serious fossil or mineral collection and as an unusual natural statement specimen.

Hand-selected by Distinction Crystals from one of the best batches we have been fortunate enough to secure, chosen for its Quartz coverage, substantial size, natural character and overall presentation.

About Permineralised Wood with Quartz Permineralised wood forms when ancient wood becomes buried and mineral-rich water moves through its structure over immense periods of time. Minerals including Quartz are deposited within the original wood structure, preserving elements of its texture while gradually transforming the material into a fossil.

In this specimen, sparkling Quartz druzy has developed across areas of the surface, creating a beautiful contrast between the ancient fossil structure and later crystal growth.

Please note that this is a natural fossil and mineral specimen. Variations in Quartz coverage, texture, colour, surface markings, cavities and natural irregularities form part of its individual character and are not considered defects. Colours may vary slightly depending on lighting and screen settings.
